Today, Thursday, Al-Ahly Football Club of Egypt officially signed Portuguese coach Ricardo Suarez to supervise the team, replacing South African Pitso Mosimane.
Al-Ahly announced, on its official website, the signing of Suarez, 47, coach of Gil Vicente, the fifth Portuguese league last season, as a technical director for two years and the remaining matches in the current season.
The Portuguese arrived in Cairo yesterday, Wednesday, and completed all contracting procedures, and held a lengthy session with Mahmoud Al-Khatib, President of Al-Ahly Club, the general supervisor of the ball, and Yassin Mansour, President of Al-Ahly Football Company.
Suarez began his coaching career in 2005, and trained 13 clubs, most notably Deportivo Aves in the 2017-2018 season, while the rest of the teams are clubs from the second division.
Suarez, who has supervised Gil Vicente since November 2020, will coach Al-Ahly with a contract that extends until 2023 and a penalty clause of 250 thousand euros in the event of his departure.
Suarez led Vicente to qualify for the “Conference League” after he finished behind the clubs of Porto, Lisbon, Benfica and Braga in the Portuguese League last season.
Suarez’s preferred method of playing is 4-3-3, and he holds the “UEFA Pro” training license from the European Football Association.
